Participation in the educational program “The Colors of Siatista” is exclusively by reservation. You will therefore need to contact our educational program staff in order to set a date and time for your visit prior to your visit. It is very important that you stick to the schedule of your visit so that your visit does not coincide with a visit to another school unit located in the mansions.
The Pulkos and Maliogas mansions in which the educational programme is implemented are buildings with specific structural specifications and for safety reasons can accommodate approximately 15 students on each floor. Consequently, up to 30 students can enter each mansion at a time. However, our team will help you organise your visit if you are accompanying larger groups of students, dividing the students into smaller groups and offering them access and guided tours to other monuments and museums of Siatista.
Participation in the educational program “The Colors of Siatista” is free of charge for all participants (students, companions, teachers). In addition, in the mansions of Poulkos and Argyriadis (“Maliogass”), owned by the Ministry of Culture and Sports, free admission is provided for children and young people up to 25 years of age from Greece and other countries of the European Union, as well as for accompanying teachers and trainees during educational visits of schools and institutions of primary, secondary and higher education.

The painting materials to be used in the educational workshop are also available free of charge to participants, so students do not need to bring their own materials.

Discuss with students the characteristics of mansions and the time frame in which they were built (Post-Byzantine period – Ottoman period). Explain to them that mansions are traditional houses of the past, which are unique and important testimonies of the society that created them.
Students should understand that they are visiting monuments of great historical and cultural importance and not “old houses”, so it is very important to discuss the expected behaviour of students in the mansion before your visit: explain to students that they are not allowed to touch the walls, woodcarvings and any objects they will encounter during the tour. They are also not allowed to go through the dividing cords, a measure that must be strictly observed to avoid accidents and ensure the safety of the students and the monument. In addition, they should be asked to walk and not run or jump around the grounds of the Mansion. Special care is needed when ascending and descending the stairs of the mansion! Finally, please note that there are likely to be other occasional visitors to the Mansion, with whom you will need to co-exist, so it is advisable to avoid shouting within the monument.
If the number of students exceeds 10, it is advisable to divide them into groups at school to avoid wasting time in the Mansion.
Divide them into 2 groups (10 – 15 people), depending on the number of students. The separation is necessary both for the orderly execution of the educational process and to avoid damaging the monuments.
In case there are children with mobility problems or severe visual impairment in the group of students, please note this fact in your communication with the project staff, so that appropriate provisions can be made in the mansions (placement of portable ramps, modification of the tour route, etc.).
Students may bring a photography device (camera or mobile phone) and can freely photograph the mansion ( without flash) for their personal use.
Meet the instructors of the educational programme, who will take care of its implementation. The instructors can also pick you up upon request from the square of Geraneia (Pulkos) or Chora (Argyriadis – Maliogass) depending on the mansion you are visiting (for more information on how to access the monuments and parking spaces, see here).
At the reception area of the Mansion, please make arrangements with the security staff about where the students will leave their belongings (bags, coats).
During the art workshop students should be careful with materials (pencils, paints, scissors, glue), use their painting surfaces (“binders”) and remain during the art workshop within the area covered with a special non-slip surface so as not to paint the walls or floors of the Mansion.
Once they have completed the art workshop, students leave the materials they used in the state they received them and hand over their paintings to the animators.
The duration of the educational program is 1 hour and 30 minutes. If students have food with them, they can eat in the courtyard of each mansion before the program starts, during the program with a 10-minute break between the guided tour and the art workshop, or after the program ends. No food is allowed inside the mansion, only water. There are no refreshment bars or water vending machines in the mansions, so students must have purchased water or snacks in advance. However, both mansions of the educational project are located in a very short distance from the two main squares of Siatista, where there are catering facilities, bakeries, etc.
There are toilets in the mansions (in the mansion of Pulkos there is a toilet for disabled people).

From Thessaloniki (Suggested for visitors from Central and Eastern Macedonia, Thrace and Thessaly)
After the exit from the Egnatia junction, at the Bara intersection., one can follow either the Siatista ring road [right] (if one wants to visit the Mansion of Maliogass first), or the Siatista provincial road [left] (if one wants to visit the Mansion of Poulkos first).
From Ioannina (Suggested for visitors from Athens, Peloponnese and Western Greece)
Via Egnatia Odos towards Thessaloniki and exit towards Siatista. After leaving the Egnatia junction, one can follow at the Bara intersection either the Siatista ring road [right] (if one wants to visit the Maliogass Mansion first), or the Siatista provincial road [left] (if one wants to visit the Poulkos Mansion first).
From Kastoria
Following the Motorway 29 (vertical road Krystallopigi – Siatista) and exit at the junction of Siatista. After the exit from the Egnatia junction, one can follow either the Siatista ring road [right] (if one wants to visit the Maliogass Mansion first), or the Siatista provincial road [left] (if one wants to visit the Poulkos Mansion first) at the Bara junction.
